"Zoobiquity: What Animals Can Teach Us About Health and the Science of Healing"

Co-authored by Barbara Natterson-Horowitz, M.D., a cardiologist at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and science writer Kathryn Bowers, Zoobiquity examines the overlap of disorders that effect people and animals.

It explores fainting, cancer, self-mutilation, eating disorders, weight gain and sexually transmitted diseases that can happen in many species.

Dr. Horowitz was asked to consult at the Los Angeles Zoo on cardiac imaging for their apes. A new technique for veterinary cardiac ultrasound was being explored and Dr. Horowitz had a great deal of experience with this new technique in humans.

She said she was exposed to a medical field she knew nothing about. She said most physicians are ignorant of the fact that animals can get diabetes, leukemia, and breast cancer.

I am currently in the middle of this book and it is a fun, fast, entertaining read.

~Dr. Rennie
